Food wastage is a growing problem here, and SWCorp Malaysia revealed in their report that Malaysians waste 15,000 tonnes of food per day – in which 8,000 tonnes is avoidable food waste, with 3,000 tonnes of food going to landfills being edible – and enough to feed around two million people. While some of us have the luxury to quench our food cravings with a click of a button or a swipe of a card, let us all be reminded there are those who could not even afford to pay for their own meal, let alone for their families. With that, Malaysian Digest decided to put a spotlight on the issue in hopes to foster more concern and awareness amongst Malaysians so that we can keep the problem at bay.
