MIRI: For the first time, the city is running a beach-cleaning campaign in conjunction with World Oceans Day (WOD).
The campaign is aimed at creating awareness on the importance of keeping oceans, seas and all waterways free from pollution.
Themed “Save Our Oceans – Lets Clean Up,” the campaign was kicked off on Saturday at Miri Marina Beach in the presence of 300 volunteers.
Former Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Patinggi Dr George Chan Hong Nam officiated at the event and later joined the volunteers to pick up rubbish from the beach.
The volunteers were representatives from the various government agencies, schools, non-governmental organisations and corporations.
