MELAKA: The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry announced an allocation of RM61.5mil to build four new landfill cells to complement the Sungai Udang landfill.
Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said the four cells were being built as the Sungai Udang landfill had reached its maximum capacity. Three cells would be located nearby the Sungai Udang landfill while the fourth cell would be equipped with an incinerator.
Work on the first site measuring 1.82ha began this week, and was expected to last for 18 months.
“These cells will be built in stages with the second and third cells on a 7.16ha site costing RM45mil.
“They can last for two years,” he told reporters after visiting the Sungai Udang landfill.
